Sodium Bisulphate

Sodium Bisulfate is the sodium salt of the bisulfate with hygroscopic properties. It is to be noted that solutions of sodium bisulfate are acidic in nature. It has its other names as Sodium acid sulfate or Bisulfate of soda and Sodium hydrosulfate. This salt can pickle metals, and carbonize Wool. It is corrosive to metals.

Sodium Bisulphate exists as colorless crystals or white lumps. This ionic compound in an aqueous solution is a white crystalline solid that is dissolved in water to give an acidic solution. It is a strongly acidic compound. It can also bleach Leather. The acidic solutions such as Sodium Bisulfate contain moderate concentrations of hydrogen ions. They react to neutralize bases. These neutralizations generate heat. They do not react as either oxidizing agents or reducing agents. Many of these compounds catalyze organic reactions.  This ionic substance when decomposed in ethanol, forms sulphuric acid and sodium sulfate.
