CALCIUM NITRATE

Calcium Nitrate Ca (NO3)2 is an inorganic salt and is hygroscopic due to moisture absorbing property. It is a common ingredient of fertilizers to prevent calcium deficiency of crops and has several applications in daily life. It is also called Norwegian saltpeter. It has its poisonous effects; intake of an excess amount may prove fatal. It is a nitrate salt of calcium. It is usually produced in granulated form. It is a hygroscopic solid as reacts with moist air.

CAS NO :- 13477-34-4

USES AND APPLICATIONS FOR CALCIUM NITRATE
  • It is a good fertilizer frequently used in agriculture.
  • It is an oxidizing agent thus used in match manufacturing.
  • It serves in making other nitrate compounds.
  • It is used in explosive-making procedures.
  • It is used in wastewater treatment.
  • To make the molten salt mixture, it is considered an essential part.
  • It is used as a laboratory chemical while the formulation of other inorganic nitrate salts.
PREPARATION

Calcium Nitrate is formed when limestone is added to nitric acid. The resultant then, neutralizes to ammonia. It is now a day, produced as by-product from nitro phosphate manufacture.
